America’s Army 3 – Thwarted

June 18, 2009

This, folks, is one broken game.  I couldn’t get anywhere in the interface without a system crash.  The Steam forums are full of people with the same issue.  Here’s hoping for a patch.

–UPDATE–

One day after the horrible release, word is spreading that the studio responsible for AA3 has been closed, and all employees laid off.  I’m not kidding.  Really, I’m not.  Who’s gonna fix it now?

ArmA 2 In Game Footage Looks Amazing

June 16, 2009

This is video taken from a mission created with the ingame mission editor.  It doesn’t look like a particularly fun mission, but it shows the way the game really lets you feel like you are part of a much larger conflict.  I’m really impressed.  I don’t think my PC is up to the task though, as I’m running an older dual 3.2 ghz with a Nvidia 9800GT.  I think that meets the minimums, but a game like this lives and dies by it’s ability to immerse the player, so 20 frames per second aint gonna cut it.  We’ll see what people have to say about ArmA 2 performance once it’s out next week.

The Return of TGP?

June 11, 2009

Maybe, just maybe.  I’ll be playing some AA3 next week, and I might just try and put a podcast together.  Stay tuned.

Keyboard & Mouse setup for PC gaming with a TV?

July 1, 2008

A few weeks ago, I set up a gaming PC for my kids, so they don’t wreck my 360 when playing LEGO Indiana Jones and the upcoming LEGO Batman.  I have it hooked up to a 36″ LCD TV in one of our living rooms.  I’m using Pinnacle Gaming Profiler to allow a 360 gamepad to control windows, launch programs, and control emulators.  There’s just one problem though – I want to play some of my games on it now and then, and they just are not the same when using a gamepad.

Do any of you guys do any “couch” PC gaming?  If so, how do you set up your mouse and keyboard?

Hey… Over here!

June 27, 2008

Well howdy!

I just wanted to give a quick update on the state of the podcast.  Martin and I are currently busy as all hell, and when we are not busy, we are mountain biking.  So while we are not dead (the good news), we are most definitely on a temporary hiatus (the not-so-good news).

In gaming news, I love the crap out of BFBC so far (but I have hardly had the chance to play it), and I’m a tester in the closed beta for EndWar.  When I actually have time to play it, I’ll give my impressions.

Also, I got an email this week, asking me for help using the RealDamage mod I wrote for Soldier of Fortune 2 waaaaaaaaay back.  I guess that means there are still people playing SoF2…

Great New Battlefield Bad Company News, Video

April 29, 2008

First off, unless you have been living under a rock, you’re already aware that all the DLC for BFBC will be free.  Secondly, there will be a download pack available shortly after release that adds the conquest gametype.  Another huge plus.

And third, there’s a great new video out which shows just how much depth there really is to the game.  Aside from a few minor gripes, I love the beta.  Cant wait for release…

Episode 15: Beer, Battlefield, Boss Battles, and um… Brainbow Bsix

April 20, 2008

tgpartr6v2tunes3.gifMartin and I have beer, talk Battlefield, Vegas2, and the news. About halfway through, Martin says something that truly pisses me off. Which then also truly pisses him off. Just give it a listen, and the album art to the right will make better sense.

Also, Hammer Pants are mentioned.

Huge thanks to Sporky for a great Vegas 2 review (and a new mic!), and to Garfunkle a.k.a “The Scottish Meatshield” for his tips. Also, many thanks to our growing contingent of iTunes reviewers, and all the forum contributors.

My beer was Stille Nacht. Not a bad brew.

Blackguard Spork is at it again, this time with a writeup on World In Conflict in the Tactical Game Guide. Go read it HERE. Now!

Battlefield Bad Company weapons are all free now

April 10, 2008

You squawked, DICE listened. All weapons will be included in both the standard and gold editions, but the standard edition players will need to unlock the “extra” weapons through gameplay. Still a bit f’ed up, if you ask me, because gold edition buyers will, in effect, be buying gameplay unlocks. That seems like something that could greatly affect the overall flavor of the game. Whatever. It’s just a game…

and a really fun one at that.

–UPDATE–

Luke Plunket has a great writeup on why this is a hollow victory over at Kotaku. I mostly agree, but I think he’s missing the fact that the outcry from the small-but-loud actually was listened to. That’s a victory in and of itself. Read it HERE.

New Operation Flashpoint 2 Screens

April 3, 2008

ofp2b.jpgNot much to see other than a bunch of dudes running around in flecktarn BDUs. Still the screens look nice, and I can’t wait until the winter release date.

Click the small pics (courtesy of computerandvideogames.com) to make them grow.

These actually came out last week, but I completely missed them until just now.

Tango Down Episode 14: Hands-on with Battlefield Bad Company

April 1, 2008

tgpartgrawitunes7.gifTGP Presents: A Very Special Tango Down

On tonight’s episode: Martin struggles with drug addiction, while his friend Chris experiences his first menstrual period. Henry Winkler gives the performance of a lifetime, in his guest appearance as a concerned, but possibly incontinent, father.

Okay, maybe it’s not that kind of special.

Martin and I give our impressions on the time we spent with the Battlefield Bad Company multiplayer beta. See, I told you it was special.

Tango Down is a “featured podcast” on iTunes

March 28, 2008

Granted, we’re only on page five of featured podcasts in the video game category, but still, I think it’s a milestone worth noting. Have a cupcake with us, won’t you? There’s also pie.
